Grocery Store Alchemy: Cloning the Button
Button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus)
Trial Overview
This experiment tests the viability of cloning common culinary mushrooms purchased from the grocery store. It's a low-cost way to practice aseptic technique and tissue sampling without waiting for shipping or foraging in the wild.
Current Status
Stage: Established on Agar
We took a core tissue sample from a fresh, healthy-looking button mushroom using our sterile scalpel technique. The clone has successfully taken to the agar and is showing healthy, white mycelial growth.
Next Steps
Once the agar plates are fully colonized, we will be moving this culture to grain spawn (Barley or Deer Corn) to begin the expansion phase.
